Nearly 100 members of our Juventus girls community came together for a special evening focused on mindset, confidence, resilience, and the role we all play in helping young athletes grow.
On September 19, Juventus Academy DC Metro welcomed former U.S. Women’s National Team and Washington Spirit player Joanna Lohman for a two-hour Champion’s Mindset workshop with our girls players and their parents.

The evening focused on an important idea: developing strong, confident athletes takes more than what happens on the field. The environment surrounding our players matters, too.
Players and parents participated in the workshop from their own perspectives, exploring themes including mindset, confidence, resilience, failure, pressure, and growth. The goal was to help both groups build a shared understanding of what truly supports development — including how we respond to challenges, setbacks, and the inevitable ups and downs of sport.
A central theme of the evening was the importance of creating an environment around young athletes built on shared language, goals, and values. Parents and players had the opportunity to consider how expectations, communication, and mindset can influence an athlete’s experience both on and off the field.

Joanna brought insight from her career as a professional player, coach, author, and performance speaker, while creating space for honest conversations among both athletes and parents.
After the workshop, Joanna shared that one parent approached her and said:
“If I had this session when I was a kid, I would be a different person.”
It was a powerful reminder that the impact of youth sports extends far beyond the scoreboard. The lessons learned through challenges, setbacks, confidence, perseverance, and growth can stay with young athletes long after the final whistle.
Thank you to Joanna Lohman and to every Juventus player and parent who showed up, participated, and did the work together. We’re proud to create opportunities that support our players not only in becoming stronger soccer players, but also more confident and resilient young people.
