Despite never making a professional playing career for myself, playing soccer and being a part of teams has had a tremendous impact on my life and undoubtably made me the person I am today. What I want most for the players I coach is for them to reap those same rewards. Soccer taught me self-discipline and self-control, it taught me how to remain composed in moments of high pressure and it has taught me how much more you can achieve when your efforts are put towards a team goal rather than individual accomplishments. I can’t think of any other area of life where children can hone these crucial skills so frequently and in a safe, controlled environment. I believe that good coaching produces good players, and a byproduct of good players is good people.
